Now this is a glitch that I've known since I was a kid. I did post about this over on Glitch City and there is a page dedicated to this glitch on the Glitch City Research Institute wiki, which is the successor to the Glitch City Labs wiki. Anyways what happens in this glitch is if you end up getting an extra life while having the speed shoes and the music happens to fade back in after playing the extra life jingle and the speed shoes are either obtained or removed, the game will either play the song too fast or too slow when it fades in and it depends on which music bank the song comes from that determines if it's going to play too fast or too slow. That's the basis of this glitch, but I'm not sure what exactly is causing the sound driver to incorrectly set the tempo of the song when it fades back in.
